IF GUARDIOLA SUCCEEDS FERGUSON.............

It is no longer news that the years of Sir Alex Ferguson`s reign as the Gaffer of Manchester United are numbered. Based on that, what comes into my mind and minds of united supporters is who will succeed SAF?

So many coaches have been tipped to succeed Sir Alex and one of them is Pep Guardiola. He (Pep Guardiola) was formerly a coach of Barcelona FC youth team for some years before he was promoted to manage the senior team of Barca in 2008.

On his assumption of office, he exhibited his shrewdness by letting go of players like Ronaldinho, Deco, Zambrotta, Belleti and acquired Dani Alves, Gerrard Pique and so on. He ended his debut season winning all the available trophies and ended his Barca career with an unprecedented record win of 14 trophies in four seasons.

Some pundits have opined that Guardiola was successful in Barca due to the fact that he inherited a team already been built by his predecessor (Frank Rijkaard). I disagree with that. Pep brought a lot of changes to the team he inherited. Besides the players he bought, he moved Messi upfront (from playing from the flanks) and that has brought out the best in Messi and above all, he remodeled the philosophy of the team into one which strongly detests losing possession of the ball.

Pep shares some similarities with SAF in his trophy winning mentality and zero tolerance for mediocrity but he differs from SAF in the area of longevity in a club (at least for now).

So based on the above analysis, Pep will successfully succeed Sir Alex at United if given the chance but I doubt if he will stay long at the club.
